Krampus Doll
You are viewing "“Santa’s Dark Alter Ego" Krampus Doll Any true Santa Claus aficionado will, in his research, run across some of Santa’s dark companions: Krampus, Belsnickel, Nacht Ruprecht, Pere Fouettard, to name only a few. This character is a hairy, beast- like, demonic creature from the folklore of Alpine countries, who appears on Krampusnacht (Christmas Eve) searching for bad children. Historically, Santa rewarded the children on his “good” list, while his companion punished the bad. Some of the punishments included sticks for whipping and lumps of coal in stockings. In some extreme mythologies abduction of naughty children also occurred. However, sometimes if a naughty child would apologize or perhaps memorize a poem, or atone in some other way, the creature would reward him with a simple treat such as an apple, nuts, or peppermint cane. Traditionally, Krampus has a long tongue, horns, fur, and a tail. With my character I actually combined elements from several of these unsavory characters. If you look closely, it is apparent that this is not a “real” demon, but an otherwise kind and gentle bearded man merely dressed in costume. -- This is a Handcrafted Santa Doll by artist Walt Carter.
